Richard Hudson is a businessman, former District Councillor, Parish Councillor and a proud born and bred Yorkshireman. Richard lives with his partner Faye and cares deeply about public service having served as a Councillor for sixteen years from the ages of just twenty five.
Education
Richard was educated locally until the age of eighteen, choosing not to progress to university but to enter business for himself. During his early twenties Richard took the decision to study a degree on an evening, he read Law and graduated with a first-class honours degree. He was recognised through an award whilst studying for outstanding achievements in his pro bono work.
Professional career
Richard has worked within business since the age of 18 and became the sole managing director from the age twenty six along side his work as a councillor and studies. He has built and developed his business, expanding its scale and turnover whilst increasing efficiencies. Richard has also actively diversified into subsequent businesses over the years providing him with in depth knowledge of companies, small business and the local economic environment. His roles within small business have provided him with an eclectic range of skills.
Community Work
Richard has provided time and assistance to a number of charities and community groups including serving on a non-political basis as a Parish Councillor and Chairman for both Great Ayton and Ingleby Greenhow Parish Councils.
He also has formed and ran a boxing club in Great Ayton to support young adults, served as a member of the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum and as a member and trustee of his local Conservative Club.
During his younger years Richard also took part in fundraising directly for charities which were of importance to him, taking part in races like the Great North Run or National Three Peaks Challenge amongst many other more local events.
Political Career
At the age of twenty five, Richard became the youngest District Councillor at Hambleton District Council and remained its youngest member until it cessation in 2023. During this period he was chairman of Audit, Governance and Standards and vice chairman of scrutiny whilst also serving on the planning committee. During his time on the council, he relentlessly fought for his ward of Great Ayton, securing market town status opening the door to enhanced funding, he also vehemently but successfully opposed the Boundary Commissions proposals for its movement to the Thirsk and Malton constituency.
Richard stood as a County Candidate for North Yorkshire Council in 2017 and came within ten votes of unseating the incumbent Lib Dem, the nearest the Conservatives have come to taking the division.
Richard was selected to stand in the constituency of York Central in March 2024 vowing to campaign so hard that York Central will be sick of the sight of him. He pledged to stand up for the people and businesses of York, showing them that he cares about the issues which matter to them.
